The intersection at Fitzhugh and Worth is chock-full of history, at least when it comes to names. One honors Col. Lafayette Henry Fitzhugh, who served in the Mexican War and Civil War. The other is named for Worth Peak, son of Jefferson and brother to Junius, Carroll, Victor, Flora and Juliet Peak. As one of the original developers of East Dallas, much of our neighborhood’s roadways are named for the Peak family. The image on the left is dated March 25, 1963, a piece of the City Photographer Collection from the Dallas Municipal Archives. At right, the addition of a stop sign was the only real change the intersection has seen in the past 54 years — even the trees appear exactly the same.
