A black-and-white 1940s murder mystery comes to life in this year’s performance of Pegasus Theatre’s “Living Black and White” productions, “XSR: Die!” (Be sure to check out my article about creator and Lakewood resident Kurt Kleinmann and the “Living Black and White” productions in the Lakewood Advocate’s January issue.)

At a preview performance Saturday night, play-goers stepped out of the chilly air into a warm theater filled with olden-day sounds, courtesy of vocalist Sara Shelby Martin. The play centers around a murder in a backstage Broadway theater, where bumbling and beloved detective Harry Hunsacker tries to crack the case.

When producer Barbara Weinberger asked who had seen a Harry Hunsacker play before, most of the audience members raised their hands. The play is more than just something to see. It’s fun, and people seem to come back year after year for the experience.

“XSR: Die!” runs Monday, Dec. 31-Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Eisemann Center. Tickets, $10-$50, are available online. The photos below are by Mark Oristano.
