Neighborhood photographer Bill Ellison died on Aug. 1 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ellison was well known around music and photography circles after taking pictures of bands at the Granada Theater for years. Guidelive reports that Ellison, who also played guitar, often helped artists feel welcome at the Lower Greenville theater. Granada owner Mike Schoder told Guidelive that Ellison was at “pretty much every show the Granada has had since its inception.”
On Ellison’s Facebook page, Rahim Quazi wrote, “Bill Ellison had many gifts. One was making other people feel special, like stars. Every time I saw him, a sincere connecting happened. Dallas lost a truly great man.”
Ellison, a Woodrow Wilson High School 1971 graduate, did all the headshots and promotional shots for the Woodrow Musical until this year, when the cancer took him out of commission.
Artists, friends and family have been sharing their memories and condolences on Ellison’s Facebook page, and there is talk of a gathering to honor his memory at the Granada Theater. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
