Though there is no outward sign of it, the internet says this converted gas station is Petra and the Beast, at the corner of Worth and Haskell.
Several new restaurants have popped up over the past several weeks throughout the neighborhood, providing multiple ways to satisfy your spring cravings.
In April, Smithy opened on Henderson in Hibiscus’ old location in a former blacksmith shop, according to Dallas Eater. Neighbors can enjoy ahi tuna bowls, crab nachos, shareable poutine and steak inside or on the large patio. Italian and Japanese style cocktails are joined by craft beers to keep the party going until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Smithy, at 2927 Henderson Ave., is from the folks who are behind Woolworth’s Downtown.
Misti Norris left Small Brewpub to open Petra and the Beast in March. Their website says “Petra and the Beast flows with the natural seasons and cycles of the earth to bring unique, pleasant, and hearty refections from farm, forage, fermentation, and fire to table.” The Haskell restaurant is BYOB, and offers counter service Wednesday through Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, there is a reservation only, single seating tasting menu at 7 p.m. The menus will change weekly depending on the season and availability of wild ingredients. The Dallas Observer reported a March tasting menu that included pork loin, snail toast and a fresh cheese ravioli. Petra and the Beast is at 601 N. Haskell.
The empty Daddy Jack’s space will soon have a new tenant serving up brisket on Lower Greenville. Dallas CultureMap reports that Louie King BBQ will serve up Wagyu brisket and pulled pork with seafood and exotic meats worked into the rotation. The restaurant comes from Sameer Patel and Patrick Bruce, who are behind Feed and Leela’s Wine Bar + ABV Establishment (which is in the Crown and Harp’s old space) next door to Louie King. They are using a NextSeed campaign that allows investors to give as little as $100 in the eatery, resulting in financial returns, gift cards and an invite to the launch party.
On the east side of White Rock Lake, CultureMap reports that Maya’s Modern Mediterranean will join Casa Linda Plaza. Taking over the space left by the Alligator Cafe on the northeast corner of the intersection of Buckner and Garland, Maya’s will serve fast casual Mediterranean that is healthy and family friendly. The restaurant will lean more toward Middle Eastern dishes like falafel and kebabs than Greek, and it will also include three flavors of dessert hummus.
