Mark your calendar for April 1. No, not so you can plan a cruel April Fool’s joke on the roommate (maybe mark that so you can avoid becoming the fool), but because there is a folk-singer-songwriter icon coming to our neighborhood for an intimate gig, and the cost of tickets, which seem exceedingly reasonable, will go to a worthy cause.

Noel Paul Stookey, best known as the Paul in Peter, Paul and Mary, will play — along with some long-time singer-songwriter friends — at a home on Swiss Avenue to benefit KidLinks, a charity that produces original musical compositions, animations, videos and other therapeutic resources to serve the special needs of children.

In 1985, KidLinks founder traveled to a Noel “Paul” Stookey & Bodyworks Band* show to recruit Stookey to help compose and produce songs for children and families dealing with special medical and emotional needs, according to a news release.

(*Noel’s contemporary Christian band that toured when he was not on the road with iconic Folk group Peter, Paul & Mary.)

Newton, Senior Producer Paul G. Hill and Stookey (serving as artisitic advisor emeritus) have dedicate some 40 years to build the KidLinks therapeutic entertainment library to more than 120 songs, many in both English and Spanish, which may be streamed free of charge, 24-7 on KidLinks.org.

This KidLinks’ staff has produced three award-winning children’s CDs used in hospitals, medical camps and homes across the country and around the world. The April 1 event benefits the continued development of KidLinks programming.

Be prepared to sing along: Stookey has an album dropping March 22.

The concert is Friday, April 1, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the home of Dr. Michelle Nichols and Dr. Greg dePrisco, 5314 Swiss Avenue. Tickets are $40. No joke.
