The little art store sandwiched between the men’s and women’s HD’s Clothing shops on Lower Greenville is closing its doors at the end of March following 30 years of business in our neighborhood.

I visited recently with owner Rud! Riffkind, who told me that this past holiday season was her worst in three decades. She depends on the holidays, plus a few bumps around Mother’s Day and the like, to get her through the slower months of summer, and this past holiday season simply didn’t bring in enough sales to make it feasible to stay open, Riffkind says.

Ole Moon‘s closing announcment comes right on the heels of Stoney’s, and though the suffering economy is definitely a factor, it also stands to reason that Lower Greenville is losing ground as a viable place for retail storefronts.

The store is now offering all of its merchandise at 35 percent off as part of its closing sale. The Ole Moon carries work by hundreds of local artists, mostly 3D pieces. "We want to leave the stage surrounded by friends who will share our joy over having been here and will give our remaining treasures appreciative homes," Riffkind says.
