If you were followng last week’s Back Talk discussion of Woodrow’s impending move to become an International Baccalaureate school, you might be interested in this tidbit from Wichita, Kansas. Apparently, the state’s mandatory writing test, which is prepared and reviewed by a committee of 30 teachers from throughout the state, incorrectly used the word "omission" instead of "emission" on a test question. Scads of teachers, administrators, bureaucrats and students saw the test, and no one noticed the mistake. No one, that is, except an IB junior from Wichita, who had been taught by his IB instructors to read every test question carefully. The embarrassed state educators made the change, and the student is currently enjoying his 15 minutes of fame.
