The White Rock Trail at Lawther and Northwest will be closed to north- and southbound users for about a week while TxDOT builds a detour around the Northwest Highway bridge construction. In the beginning TxDOT planned to simply close the crossway, leaving it up to pedestrians and cyclists to figure out how and where to cross, so it seems this will be a better alternative. It likely came about because of all the concerns voiced by neighborhood residents.

According to the Dallas Morning News’ Joe Simnacher, “The Texas Department of Transportation is building a path at the traffic signal just west of the trail. The route, which will cross Northwest Highway and pass the nearby White Rock DART station, will be used during the next 18 months of construction”.

I left a message with the TxDOT engineer working this project in hopes of learning a bit more. Meanwhile, here are the most recent notes on plans for that chunk of Northwest.
