Signs announcing the decision are expected to go up early next week, said Brian Schultz, president of the Swiss Avenue Historic District. They will be placed at the corner of Swiss Avenue and Munger Boulevard and Swiss Avenue and La Vista Drive.

Thousands of children and their parents descend on the historic district each year for a Halloween spectacle that includes the best candy from over-the-top decorated homes.

“If families and kids came all this way and were disappointed, that would be awful,” he said. “We’re all bummed. I’ll save a couple hundred dollars on candy, but I’d rather spend the money and give it to the kids.”

The Swiss Avenue Historic District will distribute signs to other neighborhood associations that have also canceled Halloween festivities.
