The restaurant is from Dallas restaurateurs Jeff Bekavac, a Lake Highlands resident, Alamo Club and Mayer’s Garden owner Austin Rodgers, and David Cash, who owns Smoky Rose, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Bekavac, who’s worked as culinary director for Neighborhood Services, Cane Rosso and others, said snagging the property at the corner of Goodwin and Greenville was a “no-brainer.” Blue Goose closed in March after nearly 40 years.

“That part of Greenville Avenue has always been special for me and for a lot of people,” he said.

Goodwin’s will serve a variety of dishes such as salads, fish, pasta and oysters, the Morning News reported.

The restaurateurs are also opening a 22-seat bar, perfect for happy hours and after-dinner drinks. It has not yet been named, but the bar will be accessible through Goodwin’s.

“It’ll be a kind of little fun sense of discovery, if you go past those doors and find this other bar,” Bekavac said. “We’ll have a super nondescript door on the front of the bar, which is already there right now.”

While the cocktail bar will be more low-key and intimate, Bekavac said he wants Goodwin’s to be the kind of place where parents can feel comfortable taking their kids on a weekday.

“We’re kind of looking for kind of a timeless look — light woods, and we’re going to lower the ceilings a little bit,” he said. “It’s a big space. We still want it to feel intimate and kind of fun and cozy.”

Foxcroft Studio, which designed the newly opened Ascension Coffee on Garland Road, is designing the space.

Bekavac said permits still have to be issued before construction can begin, and the restaurant is expected to open next year. They’ll begin with dinner service and want to eventually offer lunch and brunch, too.
