New Bryan Adams High School Early College Pathway Designed to Help Meet Dallas’s Future Needs For Police Officers
We are very proud to announce the launch of a new criminal justice early college pathway at Bryan Adams High School. This new pathway will be part of an initiative that provides an opportunity for students to get on a career path to become police officers or work in other law enforcement or criminal justice positions.
This new early college pathway at Bryan Adams High School is more than just a curriculum change—it’s a launchpad for future leaders in criminal justice. By giving students a head start in understanding the principles of law enforcement, ethics, and public safety, the program is cultivating informed, responsible professionals from an early age. It also opens doors to internships, mentorships, and real-world experiences that reinforce both classroom learning and civic responsibility.
However, not every path in the justice system is about enforcement—many students may also find their calling in legal defense. Criminal lawyers play a crucial role in upholding justice by ensuring everyone receives a fair trial, regardless of the charge. Thanks to a strong partnership between Dallas ISD, the Dallas County Community College system—Eastfield College—and the City of Dallas Police Department, the district is now taking applications from interested students for the 2019-2020 school year. I want to thank Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson for advocating for this initiative to help address our public safety-related hiring needs over the medium to long term.
This new pathway will be in addition to the existing childhood education pathway.
This is a great opportunity for students to enter a career path that will allow them to serve the community they grew up in as police officers or teachers at the same time that they earn up to 60 college credit hours and an associate degree through Eastfield College.
The deadline to apply to this criminal justice and early childhood education pathways at Bryan Adams High School and to other similar programs across the district, as well as magnet and choice schools, is Jan. 31. Dallas ISD gives thanks for community support
The response from the Dallas community and places well beyond to the needs of thousands of Dallas ISD students, teachers and families affected by last month’s devastating tornado has been overwhelming and invaluable. We are grateful and humbled by all the support—from the gift cards collected in schools outside the district for teachers to replenish classrooms to the large donations to rebuild our schools.
We are forever grateful for the individuals who gave supplies to replace what was lost in the storm, for volunteers who showed up to set up classrooms and help welcome students to the buildings they will likely occupy the rest of this year, and for those who are still sending messages of support and well wishes.
Dallas ISD is already working on plans to rebuild and improve. Seeing the incredible support we have received, I have no doubt that regardless of any difficulties, the schools, the students, the teachers and the entire community will forge ahead with our mission of educating all students for success.
