Some Lakewood-area residents are concerned over a possible change in neighborhood ambulance services. According to an e-mail circulating among Lakewood and M Streets homeowners, the city plans to do away with full-time ambulance service at Station 17 at Skillman and Belmont, which serves that area, and re-assign the nearest full-time ambulance to Garrett and Ross, “possibly increasing the emergency response time to greater than 5 minutes,” the e-mail notes.

Dallas Fire and Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says there’s nothing he can say about this right now, since all of it is unofficial. “Nothing’s set in stone; It’s just one of many considerations being talked about.”

Are talks of cutting ambulance service related to the city budget? He’s not sure.

Some Lakewood folks are urging neighbors to contact their city councilman (that would be Sheffie Kadane) and request that the full-time ambulance (not the peak-time-only ambulance) remain at 17.

Evans acknowledges that it couldn’t hurt to contact your councilman. “If the citizens are concerned, of course they take that into consideration.”
