Before moving to East Dallas to be near her children, she lived in Midland for 24 years. Her series, “Advice from a Sunflower,” was inspired by memories with her father and grandfather as they tended “their respective sunflower gardens in the open fields of rural Mississippi,” she says.

She remembers the sunflowers towering over her as a child, and every time she visited her father’s and grandfather’s gardens the sunflowers seemed to welcome her “like old friends.” She still remembers those feelings of joy and peace whenever she sees sunflowers today.

Johnson is an expressive mixed-media artist who works primarily with acrylic pours, collage, silk dye, and watercolor. Her artwork will be featured at the Dallas Arboretum’s Artscape event later this month, from April 2224. Learn more on her website.
