On Jan. 20, the nonprofit for mothers and 18 other family organizations recieved individual grants of $25,000. Mommies in Need was awarded the grant thanks to their childcare drop-in childcare center, Annie’s Place.

The Mavs Foundation grant gives back to women, children and families in need each year. It’s been a tradition since October 1996. In addition to grants, the foundation also contributes toward building new basketball courts and reading and learning centers for children and residents in communities in need.

The community spaces and basketball courts are meant to encourage healthy living, expand learning opportunities and access to technology to support youth education programs, teen and adults job-skill training and more, according to the foundation website.
