My favorite part of this morning’s "profile" of Observer columnist Jim Schutze in Dallas’ Only Daily Newspaper is the picture of Jim, in which he is wearing a tie. I have known Jim a long time, and I can’t remember the last time I saw him in a tie. I’d get that one framed to give as gifts, Jim. You look very distinguished. (That’s Jim without a tie, by the way.)

The story is interesting, if only because it manages to give all the reasons why Jim is wrong and the Belo Parkway should be built. It also offers this wonderful tidbit: "Mr. Schutze’s unique contribution is an air of conspiracy." That’s us on the anti-toll road side, huddled in our nooks and crannies, slobbering at the mouth, looking for U.N. helicopters and poring over video of the moon landing to prove that it really took place in a southern California shopping mall.

Note to Rudolph Bush, who wrote the story: Generally, when one profiles someone, one includes bits about the subject’s background. Like Jim used to work at the Times Herald. Or that he has been a respected newspaperman for almost 40 years. Or that he has written six books and been nominated for a bunch of awards. Here is his IMDB entry. If you need a quote next time, let me know.
