A generic drug company backed by Mark CubanĀ filed to build an $11 million drug manufacturing plant in Deep Ellum, the Dallas Morning News reported.

An existing building that Cuban owns at 302 S. Walton St. will be remodeled to house the 22,000-square-foot manufacturing facility for Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company. Construction is scheduled to begin Wednesday and be completed by 2022, according to the Morning News.

Jacobs architecture firm will design the building, the newspaper reported.

The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is dedicated to producing low-cost versions of high-cost generic drugs, according to the companyā€™s website.

Medical doctor Alex Oshmyansky pitched the idea to Cuban via email, and Cuban agreed to put his name on the company to show that capitalism can be compassionate.
