Around 8:50 p.m., police responded to calls that a man was trying to enter homes in the 4200 block of Buena Vista Street, near N. Fitzhugh Avenue.

Officers found Roderick Green when they arrived at the location and tried to take him into custody. Video obtained by KDFW (Channel 4) shows officers instructing Green to sit down.

But Green ran across the street, and the officers’ stun guns were ineffective, police say.

Green then began to chase one officer, who unholstered her gun, and Green tackled the officer, according to the police. While they were on the ground, Green grabbed the officer’s hand and gun, and the gun discharged, but police say no one was hit.

The second officer then took control of Green and arrested him. He is charged with assault on a public servant and attempting to take a peace officer’s weapon. Dallas County records show Green was also accused of burglary of a building.

After being evaluated and released by a local hospital, Green was taken to the Dallas County Jail. The officer he tackled was also taken to a hospital, treated and released, police say.

Police found that earlier in the evening, Green was involved in car crash in East Dallas. Officers responded to a major accident call around 7:20 p.m. Friday. The initial investigation found that Green was driving north in the 5200 block of Belmont Avenue and turned east onto the 2400 block of N. Henderson Avenue, left the road, ran onto the sidewalk and hit a patio wall. Green, who police say was driving the car, left the scene. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
