The eight-story Wells Fargo building in Lakewood  (home to Advocate Media) was built in the early 1970s and hasn’t changed much since. Its classic whitewashed brick façade and antique-y interiors lend a Brady Bunch-era feel to the place — Mike himself might have drawn up the plans. The builders “spared no expense,” says Tim Slaughter, one of three partners in Caddo Holdings LLC, which recently purchased the property at La Vista and Gaston. Slaughter, along with partners Dustin Schilling and Stacey Davis, is working on a renovation design, but he says they plan to preserve the structure’s personality. “We don’t want to hide what we have here. There will be some changes, but they will complement rather than change the character of the building,” Slaughter says. He notes that the floors on the Wells Fargo bank level and much of the original foundation “would cost a fortune to duplicate these days.” A cosmetic renovation plan will include improvements to the main entrance, lobby and interiors throughout, as well as landscaping, Shilling says. Already in place is the property’s most attractive aspect: Location. “We like the walkability and are big fans of urban infill and being able to work in the area you live,” Shilling says. “We see this as a class B building in a class A location, with class C interior finishes.” The interior renovation will start from the ground up, where Slaughter, who lives in Richardson, and Shilling and Davis, who live in our neighborhood, will office. They plan to renovate a few “spec suites” to show prospective tenants their upgrade plans. They say they’ll work on the landscaping, creating an aesthetically appealing natural path from the main building to the four-story adjacent Texas Neurology clinic, and get the parking garage, which is across the street, “looking like somebody cares about it.”
