The New York buyer, RXR Realty, purchased 2625 back on Dec. 27. RXR disclosed to the Dallas Morning News that they will be tearing down sections of the historic facility to make room for the 300-unit apartment that will go there.

Currently, the project is undergoing design phases that could take up the majority of 2024. Construction is anticipated to begin by the end of the year or early next year, Dallas Business Journal reports.

Joseph Graziose,  executive vice president at RXR told the journal that the company intends to preserve the building’s historical beauty.

RXR’s Deep Ellum purchase is the firm’s first project in Dallas.

For decades, Uplift operated as a charter school in the 100-year-old Deep Ellum before relocating in January to Old East Dallas

The new campus, Uplift Luna, includes modern features utilizing design concepts that foster social-emotional learning for students, teachers and staff. Construction was completed earlier this month.
