If you haven’t made it out to the 2013 State Fair of Texas, this weekend is your last chance to go, and you definitely need to go. Sure, you need to say hello to the new Big Tex and soak up the Dallas skyline from the top of the Texas Star Farris Wheel, but more importantly you need to check out the art exhibit that’s curated by one of our own East Dallas artists, Lottie Minick.

For seven years, Minick has coordinated the annual Friends of Lottie Sculpture Garden exhibit at the State Fair. She finds and displays art by dozens of artists in the garden that buttresses the Chinese Lantern Festival. The artists are from all over Texas. Many are from Dallas or the Dallas area. Several are even from East Dallas, including Cynthia Daniel, Lynn Reagan, Cassandra Fink, Juli Hulcy, and of course Minick.

Once the fair closes, the art will be taken down and new art will be displayed next year. So if you don’t see them this weekend, you won’t see these pieces again. Unless, of course, you buy one, which you can do because all the art displayed is for sale. For those who’ve already seen the sculptures, you can start looking forward to next year when Minick and her friends will unveil a whole new row of masterpieces.
