The review analyzed 103,099 K-8 schools based on data from the U.S. Department of Education and students’ proficiency in mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments, graduation and high school readiness.
Lakewood Elementary placed eighth in reading proficiency, tied 18th in math proficiency and was well above expectations on reading and math performance.
Compared with the district and state, the school outperformed in math and reading. In Texas, 39% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 34% tested at or above that level for math.
The top DISD elementary schools in Texas, according to the report, were William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted (first), Sudie L Williams Talented and Gifted Academy (seventh), Lakewood Elementary School (ninth), School for the Talented & Gifted in Pleasant Grove (14th).
This recognition follows the earlier top 10% ranking of Dallas ISD high schools among Texas high schools earlier this year.
