Talk about a bad return on investment — steal $300,000 and wind up being ordered by the court to pay $1,312,385 in restitution, along with 23 years in the slammer. That’s what the DMN says happened to the guy nabbed as part of the Lakewood Compass Bank armored car heist in Septembe 2007 in the Lakewood Shopping Center across from the Lakewood Theater.
Ray Williams, a three-time loser for robberies during the past 30 years, managed to elude capture for about six months. And he did put some ot the stolen money to good use, buying a BMW for himself and a VW for his girlfriend, according to the DMN story. Anyway, the neighborhood heist is still believed to be the largest armored car robbery in Dallas history.
