The White Rock campus of Lakepointe Church at 9150 Garland Road is under construction on a new sanctuary and outdoor space.

“We want to open up the building to Garland Road and East Dallas,” says Chris Burkley, the executive pastor of Creative Arts and Campuses. “We are converting the existing 1,000-seat sanctuary filled with pews to a new 650-seat auditorium. A new lobby with large exterior glass walls will welcome members and visitors. New outdoor gardens and sitting areas will be added. We want to connect with Garland Road and the East Dallas community.

“We will be the church version of Smoky Rose rising from the old gas station!”

The work continues the transformation of the previous Lakeside Baptist Church, which merged with Rockwall-based Lakepointe in 2017. Countering a drop in attendance and the loss of younger families, Lakeside Baptist leadership considered several options before choosing to become the East Dallas location for Lakepointe. Lakepointe now boasts six locations in North Texas and one in Mexico.

Beck is the architect, and Talley-Riggins is the general contractor. Construction is expected to last 12 months.
