Lakehill Preparatory School freshman Luke Williams won honorable mention at the Dallas Teen Film Festival for his comedy “Escape From Dog Island.”
The film, based on a “Lord of the Flies” narrative, centers around a group of dogs trapped on an island and hunted each night by a monster. Williams, who said he finds talking-dog movies unrealistic, created a unique bark for each dog and used subtitles to reveal the dogs’ conversations.
Williams began the project in his digital production class and spent six weeks producing the claymation movie, audio and original music.
“I knew it was quite a big task to accomplish, but he worked diligently on it while finishing other projects in the class,” teacher Mark Guerra said. “I was excited to watch his creative process as he wrote the script and created the storyboards.”
Williams’ film was selected from more than 40 entries and will be presented during Lakehill’s slot in the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest film festival in April.
The freshman has also spent about two years creating a comic TV show with his friend Mika Davis. The specifics remain secret while they pursue copyrights for their show.
