The Santa Fe Trail is in need of some greenery.

Later this week, Saturday, Jan. 24, Dallas Park and Recreation Department and volunteers from neighborhood and civic associations will work together to plant trees along the Santa Fe Trail. From 10 a.m. until noon, they will plant 44 trees of various species along the East Dallas trail from Mt. Auburn to Valencia.

The Park Maintenance Services staff will be there, as well as 50 volunteers representing Friends of Santa Fe Trail, Texas Trees Foundation and the city’s Citizen Foresters.

Last tree planting season the department joined with corporate partners and citizens to plant 700 trees at six planting events, totaling 1,788 trees planted citywide in 2014.
