Across Dallas, police reported a decrease in murders and violent crime in 2022. But in many parts of East Dallas, even just considering last month, property crimes were prevalent.

According to the Dallas Police Department’s dashboard, simple assault, theft from motor vehicles and motor vehicle theft were the three most-committed crimes in East Dallas in January.

Most of East Dallas is encompassed by five Dallas Police Department sectors:

  • Sector 110: Junius Heights, Munger Place, Hollywood/Santa Monica, Mount Auburn
  • Sector 140: M Streets, Lower Greenville, Lakewood Heights, Swiss Avenue, Cochran Heights, Vickery Place
  • Sector 150: Old East Dallas, Deep Ellum
  • Sector 220: Reinhardt, Casa View
  • Sector 230: parts of Lakewood, Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills, Lochwood, Old Lake Highlands, Casa Linda

Take a look at data from the dashboard for these five sectors in the graphs below.

Sector 150 had the most recorded crimes in January, but the number is about a 6% decrease from January 2022 levels. Sector 110 had the fewest recorded crimes of the five sectors in consideration.

Crime was down in Sector 150, Sector 220 and Sector 230 last month, compared to January 2022. But the number of reported crimes was slightly higher last month compared to January 2022 in Sector 110 and Sector 140.

The most common type of crime varied across sectors. Simple assault was the highest in Sectors 110 and 220. However, theft from a motor vehicle was the most common in Sector 140. Motor vehicle theft was the most common in Sector 230, and drug and narcotics violations was the most common crime in Sector 150.
