Update (March 12): Dallas Fire-Rescue investigators say the fire was the result of a gas explosion inside the front of the house. But because they couldn’t find a competent ignition source and the house will have to be demolished, the cause will remain undetermined. The fire department reserves the right to change or add to the finding if any new information comes forward.

Update: Two adults and two children live in the house at 8714 San Leandro Drive, but they were all out of town during the fire.

There was a house fire at 8714 San Leandro Drive.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call for a structure fire at a home at 1:06 a.m. March 11. The neighbor who called 911 told Dallas Fire-Rescue there was a “loud bang” before looking outside and seeing a house on fire.

When the firefighters arrived, they saw heavy fire coming from the one-story house, and some flames were encroaching onto a neighboring home. But the firefighters were able to put out the fire within an hour.

The home where the fire started was significantly damaged. Part of the roof collapsed. According to an email from the Dallas Fire-Rescue public information officer, firefighters would not enter the home until daylight to search and investigate because of structural issues of the home. People live in the home, but firefighters weren’t sure if anyone was inside during the fire.

One woman in her 70s was inside the home next door, but she was not injured, and there was some exterior damage to her home.

This fire is under investigation.
