Sally will be speaking tonight at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in a new educational lecture series sponsored by the church’s environmental Green Team, and the community is invited. Sally will entertain and enlighten, sharing stories from the construction of the lake in 1910 until today and sharing tips on how to beautify and protect this inner city treasure.

You’ll be able to purchase Sally’s book, White Rock Lake, penned after years of research and containing remarkable vintage images such as White Rock Creek prior to construction of the lake and a World War II POW camp situated on its banks. Royalties from the book go directly to the Dallas Parks Foundation, which is preparing for the big Centennial of White Rock Lake later this year.

Next week’s talk is a composting class with A.L. Nickerson of the LH Community Garden. A.L. will teach the fine art of generating your own rich compost, and attendees who reside in Dallas will receive a free composting bin – a $90 value – courtesy of the City of Dallas. You’ll need to RSVP for this one by emailing here, and free childcare is available if you email here by January 23rd.

Both lectures will be held in the LHUMC sanctuary, 9015 Plano Road, from 6:30-7:30 pm.
