It’s been 58 days since Rocky and Joanna Owens lost their beloved cat, Bongo, a fun-loving Scottish Fold munchkin with a distinctly orange fur. The Lakewood couple has taken their search for Bongo all over Dallas, gaining community notoriety with big signs offering a $3,500 reward to find him.
“We have a couple of cameras in the backyard,” says Rocky. “We have a video of him sitting in the middle of the backyard. These cameras always record about a minute and then shut off until there’s motion again. All of the sudden it goes to the next video and he just disappears. It was a real head scratcher.”
On Saturday morning, April 8, Bongo was nowhere to be found; devastating the family that loved him so dearly.
“We’ve had him since 2020,” says Rocky. “He was a COVID pet.”
The Owens family got Bongo from a Craigslist ad to appease their youngest son.
“My nine-year-old son, Bongo belongs to him,” says Joanna. “We are attached to him, there’s just such a bond and relationship between all of us and this cat.”
As the search approaches sixty days, the prospect of bringing Bongo home might be meow or never.
