Fees associated with golf courses and tennis facilities operated by the City of Dallas have increased, but not by very much.
Even with the more expensive rates, these city-owned facilities are still among the most affordable in the area. For example, seniors will now be asked to pay $14 at Tenison Glen Golf Course. By comparison, seniors pay $25 at the Golf Club of Dallas, a privately owned club on W. Red Bird Lane in Oak Cliff.
The cost increases are meant to help offset higher material and services costs required for maintenance, according to a newsletter from Dallas Park and Recreation. For example, the costs of fertilizer and other related chemicals have increased 50%-75%, the newsletter says.
The Dallas Park and Recreation Board approved the changes for golf course green fees and tennis center fees at its Jan. 12 meeting. Golf courses affected include Cedar Crest, Luna Vista, Stevens Park, Tenison Glen, Tenison Highlands and Keeton Park. Four tennis centers — at Fretz Park, Kiest Park, Samuell-Grand Park and L.B. Houston Park — also have new rates.
Before the new rates went into effect, the weekday green fee at Tenison Highlands was $39.50. Now, the cost has increased to $41.
The same $2.50 increase was applied to the weekday green fee at Tenison Glen, making the updated cost $16.
Regular play at Samuell-Grand Tennis Center (where there are also pickleball lines) previously cost $3.50 per person. The fee has been increased to $5 per person.
