Class of ’41 kicks off gatherings

By Kyle Rains

May means graduations and reunions. Woodrow’s seniors will graduate at 8 p.m. May 26 at Southern Methodist University’s Moody Coliseum. But those who became alums exactly 50 years ago are scheduled to kick off the many reunions scheduled for this spring and summer.

Festivities for the Class of June 1941 (January classes of ’41 and ’42 are also invited) begin with a gold tournament at Lakewood Country Club May 3. The following day features an 11 a.m. lunch and a program incorporating the 1991 seniors. The reunion concludes with a dance later that night.

Lakewood resident and class member Doris Gwin Townsend has helped organize the show. You may recall that Doris was responsible for the tribute to retired principal Wayne Pierce in 1987, and she is also active in the school’s annual musical.
