Yes, you’ll have to go somewhere else for breakfast for the next couple of weeks. The East Dallas institution, famed in song and story and helmed by the always affable George Sanchez (who puts up not only with the Gold Rush regulars, but with Jim Schutze and me), is taking its annual summer vacation. This means you’ll see a lot of cars with younger people pull up around 9:30 on weekend mornings, see the place is closed, and then drive off.

When the restaurant reopens the first week of August, George reports that it will have a Wi-Fi connection, just like Starbucks. I am still pondering the cultual significance of this, though George says it is being added at the request of numerous customers.
