Ahhh August in Texas. It’s somewhere around 102 and all you can think about is jumping into the pool, standing in front of  the air-conditioning vent, sipping ice-cold beverages and slurping hot and spicy chili — uh, wait, which one of those does not belong?  Unfortunately, the famous chiles from Hatch, New Mexico don’t care about weather/ food compatibility here in Tejas. They only grow a few weeks out of the years and that happens to be in August. So the annual Hatch Chile Festival at Central Market also falls in August.    From CM:

We will kick off our Annual Hatch Chile Festival on Wednesday, August 18, when we fire up the black, authentic chile roasters. The festival is a salute to the seasonal return of the world-famous peppers, fresh from Hatch, New Mexico that are harvested for only a few weeks out of the year, aren’t grown anywhere else in the world, and connoisseurs consider them some of the finest.
