Greenville Avenue Pizza Company closed its Richardson location last week. This was the pizza shop’s first location outside of East Dallas. GAPCo’s original East Dallas locations aren’t going anywhere.

The expansion to Richardson came as an experimental opportunity to bring new customers outside of the East Dallas neighborhood, Joshua Ramirez GAPCo manager, said.

“It was the first time we ran a full-service store rather than more of a fast-casual [store], for instance, like our Peavy [location] is more of a to-go delivery store,” Ramirez said. “It just wasn’t something that worked out with us. But I mean, as far as our other two stores, we’re both doing very good. We’re still hoping to grow, but that just wasn’t quite the right move that we needed to make.”

During the two years, the Richardson store was open, GAPCo owners Sammy and Molly Mandell realized the full-service model strayed away from the original brand concept.

The owners closed their Richardson location in December to reevaluate the concept in hopes of re-opening in mid-January. However, after consideration, it was decided to permanently close the Richardson location immediately.

Moving forward the company will stick to a smaller footprint, similar to Lowest Greenville and Peavy Road that allow dining in but are more geared towards pickup and delivery for neighbors.

“It’s unfortunate, but it’s really just a confirmation that GAPCo’s original model works and should be the model moving forward,” Sammy Mandell said on their website. “We’re still incredibly excited about all the support that the Richardson location received. We loved being a part of the Richardson community, and you never know what the future will bring. We hope this isn’t goodbye but a ‘We will see you later.’”

Pizza lovers can still grab at 1923 Greenville Avenue and 1145 Peavy Road locations.

“Nothing at all is going to change over here,” Ramirez said.
