The toy store Froggie’s 5 & 10 is hopping over to Hillside Village in early 2021, the manager said Tuesday.
Froggie’s lease at 3207 Knox St. is set to expire at the end of the year. And with ongoing construction on Knox Street hurting foot traffic, owner Anne McGilvray decided to make the jump to Lakewood, manager Chase Bilbrey said.
“Anne lives in Lakewood, and I’ve always loved East Dallas,” Bilbrey said. “I’ve been a parent at Hexter for 13 years. I was eating at Haystack and seeing kids on bikes. I felt it. I see this being a fun place.”
All merchandise will be 40 percent off through November in a store-wide moving sale.
Froggie’s and its sister store, Betty Lou, will begin packing the Knox Street location Dec. 26 and reopen at Hillside in mid-February or early March, Bilbrey said.
They will be located next to Palmer’s Hot Chicken in a space that is being renovated.
McGilvray opened Froggie’s in 1996, and it became one of Dallas’ oldest and most iconic toy stores — known for its fart wall. It sells games, puzzles, books, stuffed animals, pranks and other oddities for all ages.
“Anne is 80 years old and lives 1 mile from the new location,” Bilbrey said. “She’s excited to do that 25-year anniversary in a new spot close to her house.”
