It looks like GarlandĀ could have two new fast food restaurants in the near future.

A zoning change application was filed with the city earlier this month for two tracts of land on the corner of Garland and Beachview that would change the tracts from Limited Office to Community Retail, ā€œto allow development of a restaurant with drive thru uses on both tracts.ā€

Olga Torres-Holyoak, a senior planner with the city, tells me that, ā€œThe applicant is proposing to put a Panera restaurant on one of the lots.ā€

Torres says there isnā€™t any information on what might go in the second lot at this time, but the request for a drive through suggests another fast food chain.

The zoning request is still under review with the city, but, if approved, could go before the City Plan Commission in August. The tracts are listed as 9323 and 9239 Garland in the zoning request.Ā

Both tracts of land are owned by Tenet Hospitals Limited who developed the site with a three-story hospital and medical office in 1961. The offices are currently vacant after the medical facility moved to Buckner.

Robert Reeves & Associates, Inc. is handling the application.
