Most of what I know about the foreign exchange program comes from pop culture — there’s Long Duk Dong from "Sixteen Candles", Monique from "Better Off Dead" and Fez from "That 70s Show" — but as far as real life goes, I never really got to know any exchange students. That changed this past weekend when I sat down with Vanessa Bauer and Fanny Grenzdorfer from Germany and Sweden, respectively, who spent a school year with Lakewood residents Ashlee McLelland and David Bennett while attending Woodrow Wilson High School.
