Firefighters responded around 6:30 p.m. to a structure fire at the Bella Vista Pointe Apartments at 2900 Dilido Road

Upon arrival, responders noticed flames coming from the roof of the building, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said. Eight of the apartment’s 24 units were destroyed, and the fire displaced an unknown number of residents.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but investigators said the blaze started on the balcony of a third-floor apartment. The flames crept into the attic and made their way to the roof, Evans said.

A mother and child were inside the third-floor apartment at the time of the fire, but they evacuated safely. No other injuries occurred.
