After a meeting with Dallas County health officials Aug. 26, Hinojosa said the meeting brought good news. The county’s case count continues to decline, so Dallas could soon break out of the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” risk level and move to “Extreme Caution.”

Hinojosa will release a document in the next few weeks detailing which activities could be safe and what guidelines to follow when implementing the activities, People Newspapers reported.

After protests organized by student-athletes emerged around Dallas, the district could reconsider decisions concerning extracurricular activities.

“We’re finally turning a corner,” Hinojosa said about COVID-19.

However, he said DISD would still follow the county’s guidance.

“We will follow the science,” he said.
