Demolition workers huffed and puffed and (partially) blew the building down.
Part of an 11-story tower on Haskell Avenue refused to go down Sunday during an implosion. It didn’t take long before neighbors started calling the remnant the “Leaning Tower of Dallas.”
“You could see the building fall down, and then that tower there just kind of stopped,” neighbor Ed McAndrew told CBS DFW. “Everybody went, ‘Oh no.’ There it is. It’s still sitting there. Amazing.”
Despite multiple efforts from a high-reach excavator brought in after the implosion, the elevator and stairwell shaft are still standing.
“As with many demolitions, the core and elevator shafts require additional demolition measures, and we will proceed with conventional demolition efforts over the course of the week utilizing a crane and wrecking ball,” a spokesperson for Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition told the station.

The area around the building is fenced off, and the remaining tower is not a threat to surrounding buildings or pedestrians, the spokesman said.
The former Affiliated Computer Services building at 2828 N. Haskell Ave. was supposed to be destroyed at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. In four or five years, it will become part of The Central, a $2.5 million, 30-acre mixed use development with residential units, office space, a park, hotels and restaurants.
