The space at 10620 E. Northwest Highway will open to the public next week, just in time for the first showing of “13,” a musical by Jason Robert Brown.

Performances will run from Feb. 27 to March 7 and feature students from four different schools, including Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, St. John’s Episcopal School, Woodrow Wilson High School and Christ the King.

Neighbors Tom Parr and Amy Kulas co-founded the nonprofit in 2018 with the goal of fostering a greater appreciation for the arts through performances, education and experiences.

The first performance, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” premiered in December 2018. It was such a hit that the founders began considering ways to grow.

“We are so excited to open our new space in East Dallas, and we can’t wait to see our community learn, foster, appreciate and create,” Parr said.

Tickets to “13” are $25 each. Student tickets are $15 each, and tables for four are available for $100. They can be purchased at eastdallasarts.org.

The nonprofit’s third production, “She Kills Monsters,” will open April 23.

East Dallas Arts will also offer summer camps in the new building. Campers will rehearse and perform their own musical or participate in a community production alongside a cast of adults and teens.
