The Exchange Club of East Dallas raises money for local schools. This year, the organization made a $20,000 donation to Mount Auburn STEAM Academy, located near Samuell-Grand Park.

“Donations like this science lab are incredibly helpful for our school,” says Principal Brittany Swanson.

The grand opening of the science lab follows the Exchange Club’s gala honoring The Musers — George Dunham, Craig Miller and Gordon Keith — of The Ticket sports radio.

“Our organization is simple: We help out the schools in East Dallas. We don’t debate that too much,” says Brian Bessner, an Exchange Club member. “This science lab, we’ve been talking about this for a few years now, I think, trying to get this thing done. So I’m happy to see it.”

With it, the school purchased items such as terrariums, science-experiment kits, supplies for growing indoor vegetable gardens, microscopes and mobile carts.

When we toured the science lab, fifth-graders were in groups working on several projects: classifying rocks, learning about the water cycle, using microscopes to check for density and building cars to see how electrical currents work.

The school is also celebrating its centennial anniversary this year.
