Tuesday’s annual luncheon sponsored by the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce featured a salute to outgoing chairman Rick Sorrells, a Forest Hills resident and superintendent of Dallas County Schools, and incoming chairman Mary Poss, an Ebby Halliday Realtor and former Dallas mayor pro tem. The featured speaker was 97-year-old Ebby Halliday, who signed copies of her biographical book and told a few stories on herself and talked a little about neighborhood history. I’ve heard Halliday speak quite a few times over the years, and she’s always full of energy and cheerful. I’m sure there are some people out there who don’t care for her, but I’ve never run across a single one, and I can’t think of another big-time Dallas civic-type you can say that about. Ebby told the crowd she’ll be 98 in March, and as someone told me after the event: "She has more energy now than I did when I was 30."
