When people found out that Chris Penn of East Dallas’ Good Records suffered a traumatic injury, they responded by donating over $130,000 to aid Penn and his family.
As of the afternoon of March 25, the GoFundMe page dedicated to Penn and his family had accrued more than 1,000 donations and a total of $133,100, which is just 11% away from the $150,000 goal.
On March 20, the Good Records Facebook account reported that Penn fell on his back while taking down advertising decals at the store a few days earlier. This fall exacerbated spine and back issues that Penn already had. His spinal cord was bruised in the accident, and he was paralyzed from the neck down, according to the Facebook post.
The extent of Penn’s injury is still unknown, according to the GoFundMe page, but extensive rehab, home modification and ongoing home care is expected in the future.
In addition to the GoFundMe donations, local businesses have also stepped up to support Penn. The Lake Highlands pub Vector Brewing announced on Facebook that its staff would be brewing a West Coast-style Pilsner called Penn Pals and donating the proceeds to Penn and his family. The brew pub also teased an upcoming release party and benefit concert in partnership with Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House in East Dallas.
Another business in our neighborhood, Dallas Hemp Company, is hosting an infused dinner on Friday evening and will donate part of the ticket sales to Penn and his family.
