The record store will open Monday at its new location at 9026 Garland Road after 14 years on Greenville Avenue. Co-owners Tim DeLaughter and Chris Penn told GuideLive the old spot had parking problems and slowing foot traffic after Pint & Quarts, The Blind Butcher and Dude, Sweet Chocolate closed in recent months.

“We recently celebrated our 19th birthday. Since we intend to celebrate our 20th, 25th, 30th and beyond with you guys, we have decided to relocate,” the owners said in a news release. “We are excited to continue providing our customers an adventure in listening.”

Good Records first opened on Good Latimer Expressway in 2000 and moved to Greenville when the DART rail came through and forced them to move. The new location is next door to Lounge Here and Super Yoga with Humble Pies, Hypnotic Donuts and other thriving businesses nearby.

Amenities abound on Garland Road, but that wasn’t always the case. Ten years ago, the strip of state highway from Garland-Gaston-Grand to Peavy Road was dotted mostly with run-of-the-mill nail salons, service shops and eateries. Good 2 Go Taco opened the floodgates of possibility when it launched in 2009, the Advocate previously reported.

Good Records will open its Garland location with live music from Steve Earle at 6 p.m. But before it closes on Greenville, customers can take advantage of a moving sale with some items selling for as little as $1, according to the release.
