Bedford police arrested 27-year-old Trevon Woodards in connection with the assaults of two people that occurred at about 2 a.m. March 23 in the 2600 block of Floyd Street in East Dallas near Deep Ellum.
Officers were flagged down at the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. Dallas Fire-Rescue also arrived at the scene.
A report by NBC DFW identified the victims as bride-to-be Canada Rinaldi and her future aunt-in-law Kelly Peralta. Rinaldi was visiting Dallas from Oklahoma to celebrate her bachelorette weekend when the attack happened. Peralta told NBC DFW that Rinaldi and her friends were walking outside a club to get into an Uber when a random person punched Rinaldi, rendering her unconscious. When Peralta responded by pushing the attacker away, she said she was assaulted as well.
The attack left Peralta with a black eye and swelling and Rinaldi with a broken nose, broken teeth and stitches in her forehead, according to NBC DFW.
As of the afternoon of April 1, Woodards is in custody at Tarrant County’s Lon Evans Corrections Center with a bond amount set at $76,500. He is facing charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and assault causing bodily injury, according to Tarrant County’s website. These charges could be classified as a second-degree felony and a Class A misdemeanor, respectively, according to the Texas Penal Code. Second-degree felonies are punishable by prison time of 2-20 years and a fine of no more than $10,000. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, no more than a year of jail time or both.
