Bon Appetit named Dallas its 2019 Restaurant City of the Year, and the national magazine can’t stop raving about two neighborhood eateries that made its list of 50 best new restaurants in America.

After eating hundreds of meals in dozens of cities across the United States, Deputy Editor Julie Kramer selected Khao Noodle Shop and Misti Norris’ Petra and the Beast for the prestigious list.

The top-10 list will be announced Tuesday.

Kramer called Petra and the Beast a haven for charcuterie and fresh pasta and singled out Norris as a master of cured meats. The accolade is one of several for Norris, who has been named one of Food and Wine’s best new chefs. Petra also made Esquire’s best new restaurants list and was a James Beard award semifinalist for best new restaurant in the United States this year.

Bon Appetit described Khao Noodle Shop as a fun-size Laotian noodles and snacks restaurant that turned a strip mall into a destination. Owner Donny Sirisavath’s menu, based on his mother’s Lao dishes, earned the eatery a spot on Eater’s 2019 list of best restaurants in America.
