The Texas Department of Transportation will close northbound and southbound Loop 12 from Saturday at midnight to Monday at midnight to perform bridge demolition on the west side of the Mockingbird Lane and Peavy Road bridge.
The demolition is the first step in a project to replace and upgrade the bridge. The expanse is a two-lane bridge with limited shoulders and no sidewalks. The upgraded bridge will remain two lanes but will have wider outer lanes and sidewalks on both sides to accommodate larger vehicles and bicycle traffic.
TxDOT will demolish and reconstruct the westbound side of the bridge first and repeat the process for the eastbound side. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2020.
Traffic will be redirected through the exit ramps to bypass the area. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes.
