All the propositions on the Dallas bond passed last week, which means that numerous street and cycling improvements are on the way for our neighborhood. Dallas voters approved over one billion dollars worth of iprojects all over the city. East Dallas will have streets repaired, bike lanes created, as well as trail expansions and building improvements around White Rock Lake.
The proposition to continue Dallas County Schools (DCS), the embattled taxing body that runs Dallas ISD’s bus services, was not approved last week. State Senator Don Huffiness, Dallas ISD trustee Dustin Marshall and others created a political action committee called Protect Dallas Kids to help shutter DCS. The vote means that Dallas ISD and other surrounding districts that use Dallas County Schools buses will be forced to find another solution for the more than 150,000 students that use the service.
Philip Kingston, whose City Council district covers much of East Dallas, was reprimanded by his fellow council members for filming a campaign advertisement in his City Hall office, which is a violation ethics. Council members are not allowed to use City Hall in any of their campaign materials, or hold a campaign meeting there. In classic Kingston fashion, he responded, “This is a stupid mistake, and I’m sorry to have inconvenienced you. I’ll see you after lunch.” The reprimand does not carry any other penalties, as the council did not censure Kingston.
