The neighborhood is astir with tension around whether to remove Confederate monuments and what that means for neighborhood schools, a few of which are named for Confederate leaders (Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee) and a segregationist (Woodrow Wilson High School).

Last night, a protest against the Confederate monuments sparked a counter-protest, which devolved into a shouting match, The Dallas Morning News reports.

NBC 5 polled the Dallas City Council on whether the Confederate monuments in Dallas should come down. Both East Dallas councilman, District 9’s Mark Clayton and District 14’s Philip Kingston, were in favor of removing the memorials. They were two of only four council members to put their opinions on record.

Kingston, true to fashion, took the issue to social media with a Facebook post response to a D Magazine piece by Glenn Hunter arguing in favor of preserving the Robert E. Lee statue in Lee Park. Point by point, Kingston lays out his thoughts on the subject, included below:
